The Samsung S7 is easily the best looking phone Samsung has ever created. Not being entirely different from the basic design of S6, the S7 still offers some new elements. The front and back are glass, with a metal frame in between. The volume rockers sit on one side, with the power button on the other side.
The body is curved at the edges, and the sides fit comfortably into the palm. The S7 does not feel irregular or harsh at any corner or part. One little flaw is that the glass back catches a lot of smudges and fingerprints. The speaker of the phone sits at the bottom, close to the USB cum charging port.
The Nano-SIM tray that doubles up as the micro SD slot sits at the top of the phone, along with the 3.55 mm audio jack and microphone. Unlike other big boys in the market, the S7 does not include a USB C connector, which makes it less future proof, but is an advantage in case of a battery crisis as one can simply borrow a USB 2.0 charger.
The home button doubles up as the fingerprint sensor, which is pretty fast and efficient. The phone is extremely thin, and comes with a Super AMOLED capacitive 5.1 inch screen which is a little smaller than its rivals. However, the screen as well as the design are compact, and simply put, are perfect.
A Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4 GB of RAM, and an Adreno 530 GPU ensure that the device carries enough power to perform almost any smartphone oriented task smoothly. From high-end 3D games to photo editing and what not, nothing lags in this flagship device.
The S7 comes loaded with android marshmallow version 6.0.1 along with Samsung’s very own Touchwiz UI. A slight flaw in the UI is that there are two apps for almost everything. Touchwiz is loaded with unnecessary apps which cannot be uninstalled, but can be disabled.
The phone offers 4G connectivity for both the SIMs, along with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, and Micro-USB v2.0 connectivity. A non-removable 3000mAh battery keeps the phone running for a very long period of time. Charging is also not a hassle as the phone comes with quick charge 2.0. Wireless charging is also supported, but a wireless charger is required for that. The phone is full of exciting features, and is among the best in terms of performance.
The primary camera is a 12 megapixel shooter; a dual pixel shooter to be precise. The aperture is f/1.7, and the phone has an amazing autofocus. Need not say, the LED flash is also present. The camera has a long list of features including touch focus, face/smile detection, auto HDR, geo-tagging, 1/2.6″ sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size, and panorama.
The front camera is a 5 megapixel one with an aperture of f/1.7. The camera app has a pro mode that offers a lot of tweaks. The camera is just like other Samsung flagships, and captures stunning images.
The S7 is as of now, the clear winner in the flagship battle zone. Combining style with substance, the Samsung S7 clearly makes a mark.
