Samsung’s KS9500F is the company’s flagship SUHD TV. The SUHD TV comes in three screen sizes – 65-inches, 78-inches, and 88-inches. We recently received the 65-inch UN65KS9500F for a test drive.
The KS9500 packs in brilliant design and awesome build quality. The display itself is edge-lit, presumably to achieve the “bezel-less” curved design which is intended to provide a more immersive viewing experience.
First of all, kudos to Samsung for developing an edge-lit display that can hit the 1000 nits peak brightness/ 0.05 cd/m2 blacks HDR (high dynamic range) requirements for “Ultra HD Premium” certification.
The SUHD TV is also the world’s first cadmium-free, 10-bit quantum dot panel. It also supports IoT (Internet of Things) compatibility through a SmartThings Extend USB adapter.
The KS9500 is possibly one of the most beautiful TVs we’ve ever reviewed. Aside from being remarkably thin in profile, the KS9500’s equally thin bezel blends almost seamlessly into the display panel. The chrome that borders the TV is echoed in its stand, which is a bit shallower this year, and is confidently stable.
Even the back of the TV is beautiful – you’ll find no screws or other hardware here. Everything has been hidden under a high-impact plastic shell that’s been stamped with a shirring texture.
There are clips to keeps cables tidy and the TV also comes with an off-board One Connect box. This box assists in keeping things clean on the back of the TV. It reduces the number of cables you need to connect to it.
The metal stand has also got the chrome finish. It goes quite deep against the back of the TV. Setting up the TV was quite easy. The KS9500 series boasts Ultra HD resolution, HDR10 (High Dynamic Range) capability with 1,000 nits peak brightness.
The TV also has the capability of producing 96 percent of the colours in the DCI-P3 color space, bringing it very close to the color you see in a digital cinema. Those same features also certify it for the Ultra HD Premium standard – a set of performance qualifications outlined by the UHD alliance.
The KS9500, as mentioned earlier, comes with Samsung’s One Connect box, which houses all four of the TV’s HDCP 2.2-compliant HDMI 2.0a ports and over-the-air antenna input. This allows for a single, proprietary cable to run to the TV.
Picture quality of the Samsung KS9500 is impressive. Blacks are very deep and the uniformity is good. There is excellent wide colour reproduction and a very high peak brightness.
From low to high resolutions, details are always crisp. The TV also deals with reflections very well. The TV was also free from any obvious banding issue.
Having said all of that, however, 4k is really where the Samsung KS9500 shines bright. Those who sit close enough to pick up all the little 4k details will enjoy the crisp picture this TV produces. The Samsung KS9500F 65-inch Curved SUHD Smart TV thus grabs the Review Central Editors’ Choice award.
