Review: Dynabook Portege X30L-K-11J Business Laptop

There is no denying that Dynabook makes some of the best thin-and-light business laptops with enhanced security features. We take a look at the new Dynabook Portege X30L-K-11J laptop and here are our thoughts about it.

Design

The Dynabook Portege X30L-K-11J features a lightweight construction that weighs only 904g and is only 17.9mm thick, thanks to its magnesium alloy chassis which is lighter and stronger than aluminum. The device has also passed the MIL-STD 810H tests, indicating that it can handle accidental bumps that can happen while you work on your journey.

The main display of the laptop comes with a 13.3-inch anti-glare IPS panel with FHD as its native resolution and 250nits of maximum brightness. Dynabook also offers Sharp IGZO-based IPS displays with higher brightness and touchscreen support.

That said, the viewing angles are great for our review unit along with solid colors and the white saturation appears to be well-balanced between warm and cool temperatures. For those concerned with privacy, the IR camera with dual microphones comes with a webcam shutter slider that can be closed at any time.

The laptop also offers several connectivity options for the everyday on-the-go worker. On the right side, there is a MicroSD card slot, a USB 3.2 Type-A port, an Ethernet port, and a security lock slot. On the left, there are two USB 3.2 Type-C Gen 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for data transfer, power delivery, and Display Port connectivity, along with an HDMI 2.0 port, another USB 3.2 Type-A port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Portege X30L-K-11J also has a great frameless backlit keyboard that feels good to type on, along with a smooth precision touchpad that features dedicated buttons for left and right mouse clicks. While the touchpad appears to be a bit small as compared to the competition, it’s still very usable and we did not have any issues while using the laptop. There is also a biometric fingerprint scanner that is located on the top-left side of the touchpad.  Dynabook also implemented the Accupoint pointing device that is colored in blue.

For audio, the laptop speakers are located on the bottom side of the palm-rest portion of the keyboard, facing forward. The speakers are tuned with DTS Atmos sound technology that produces better audio quality. The rear side of the display lid is just plain in design with the Dynabook branding. The bottom panel of the chassis can be easily unscrewed and also has vents for air circulation. There are also air exhausts on the rear side of the laptop.
