Sony has announced the RX10 V, the fifth-generation model in its acclaimed RX10 series of all-in-one bridge cameras. Combining a versatile 24-600mm ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T lens, AI-powered autofocus, high-speed continuous shooting, and advanced 4K video capabilities, the RX10 V is designed to deliver professional-level performance in a single compact camera for photography enthusiasts, content creators, and hybrid shooters.
Building on the strengths of its predecessor, the RX10 V retains the series’ hallmark combination of a large-aperture, high-magnification zoom lens and a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with approximately 20.1 effective megapixels. Paired with Sony’s latest BIONZ XR image processing engine, the camera is capable of capturing high-quality stills and video across a wide range of shooting scenarios, from wildlife and sports to travel, portraits, and everyday photography.
The camera’s integrated ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens offers a 25x optical zoom covering focal lengths from 24mm wide-angle to 600mm super-telephoto, eliminating the need to carry multiple lenses. With a maximum aperture of F2.4-4.0, the lens also enables attractive background blur while maintaining excellent low-light performance. Macro photography is supported from as close as 3cm at the wide end, while tele-macro shooting is possible from approximately 72cm at the maximum zoom range.
One of the biggest upgrades in the RX10 V is the introduction of AI-powered Real-time Recognition Autofocus, driven by a dedicated AI processing unit. The system can identify and accurately track humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and aircraft, while a new Auto mode automatically determines the subject type without requiring manual selection.
Sony’s AI-powered human pose estimation technology allows the camera to continue tracking subjects even when their faces are partially hidden or turned away from the camera, making it particularly useful for sports, wildlife, and action photography. Users can also activate Real-time Tracking simply by touching the desired subject on the screen, allowing the autofocus system to maintain precise focus while photographers concentrate on framing the shot.
For capturing fast-moving action, the RX10 V performs AF and AE calculations up to 60 times per second, enabling blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 frames per second with full autofocus and auto-exposure tracking. A Continuous Shooting Speed Boost function also allows photographers to adjust burst speeds on the fly, helping capture decisive moments during unpredictable action.
Sony has also significantly enhanced the camera’s video capabilities. The RX10 V supports 4K recording at up to 120 frames per second, enabling high-quality slow-motion footage at up to five times slower playback while maintaining full 4K resolution. Active Mode image stabilization helps deliver smoother handheld footage, making the camera suitable for vlogging, documentaries, travel videos, and professional content creation.
The camera incorporates Sony’s AI-powered Auto Framing technology, which automatically keeps subjects centred during recording, even as they move around the frame. Additional video features include S-Cinetone for cinematic colour reproduction, S-Log3 for greater flexibility in post-production colour grading, and support for importing up to 16 custom LUTs for real-time preview while shooting in Log mode. Time-lapse recording and Shot Mark functionality for extracting still images from video further expand its creative capabilities.
Image quality is further enhanced through Sony’s BIONZ XR processor, which reduces noise at higher ISO settings while accurately reproducing skin tones, skies, landscapes, and natural textures. The camera includes 12 Creative Look presets that allow photographers to customise colour and tonal characteristics directly in-camera, while the updated Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) offers expanded settings up to Level 8 to recover shadow detail in high-contrast scenes.
Sony has also refined the RX10 V’s ergonomics by incorporating design elements from its Alpha mirrorless camera series. The improved grip, intuitive button layout, and responsive multi-selector provide comfortable handling and quick access to controls during shooting.
A major usability upgrade comes in the form of a larger 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots and 0.78x magnification, providing a brighter and more detailed view for composing images. The camera also features a 3.0-inch LCD monitor with approximately 1.62 million dots, delivering sharper previews and easier menu navigation.
Battery performance has also been improved. Powered by Sony’s NP-FZ100 rechargeable battery, the RX10 V delivers up to 630 still images per charge, representing more than a 50% improvement over the previous generation. This extended battery life makes it well suited for travel, outdoor photography, and long shooting sessions.
Designed for reliability in diverse environments, the RX10 V features a dust- and moisture-resistant construction, along with dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) for faster wireless image transfer. USB Type-C connectivity supports high-speed data transfer and enables 4K 30p live streaming, allowing creators to use the camera for professional online broadcasts.
The RX10 V also supports Sony’s Creators’ App, enabling users to connect the camera to smartphones for remote shooting, wireless file transfers, cloud uploads, and firmware updates.
With its powerful AI-driven autofocus, versatile 24-600mm zoom lens, professional video features, and improved usability, the Sony RX10 V offers photographers and content creators an all-in-one imaging solution capable of handling everything from everyday moments to demanding sports, wildlife, and cinematic productions without the need to change lenses.
