Parrot brings your garden into the Internet age with the launch of Parrot Flower Power, the first smart wireless sensor, equipped with Bluetooth Smart technology, that connects to your Smartphone and helps keep your plants healthy thanks to a dedicated application developed in collaboration with international scientists.
Whether in a pot or a bed, Parrot Flower Power monitors and analyses four criteria that are crucial to the growth of plants: soil moisture, fertiliser, ambient temperature and light intensity. Rookie gardeners, expert planters or involuntary plant serial killers… Join the ‘eco-geek’ movement!
Have you ever dreamt of growing fresh, organic tomatoes on your balcony, fruity citrus in your living room, or beautiful gerberas in your garden? Now it’s possible! Designed to be resistant to any extreme weather conditions (heat, humidity, sun exposure…) Parrot Flower Power is a sensor that is “planted” close to a plant, indoors or outdoors, in a pot or a bed.
It measures, precisely and in real time, the parameters that are crucial for the growth and good health of plants: soil moisture, fertiliser, ambient temperature and light intensity.
You can place as many Parrot Flower Power sensors as there are plants to be monitored. You can also associate several plants to a single sensor. If you choose to do this, as Parrot Flower Power measures the soil parameters in a perimeter of 5 to 10 cm around it, you need to ensure that the watering of each plant is even and that the conditions for soil drainage, sunlight/sunshine and temperature are the same for all plants (like in a window box for example).
The data for each plant is stored in the flash memory of the Parrot Flower Power and regularly transferred via Bluetooth Smart to a Smartphone or tablet equipped with the free Flower Power App.
You will then be able to easily consult the data and analysis from each plant on a single Smartphone or tablet, and so, to be guided in the maintenance of your plants or alerted in the case of an action to be done.
Therefore, you will be able to adjust the watering or the addition of fertiliser, to know if the location or exposition of your plants is adapted and to be informed in case of extreme temperatures or lack of light.
Parrot Flower Power is accompanied by a free dedicated application, downloadable from the AppStore. A very intuitive application, it gives access to a rich library of plant-related content, including tips and advice for the maintenance of thousands of plants.
On the app, you can select the plant to be monitored from a library of more than 6000 plants, trees and vegetables (2000 species) based upon collaboration of French, Dutch and American botanists. Then, you can access its fact sheet and are able to see its origin, photos, typical needs and plenty of tips to keep it healthy. Lavender, basil, geranium, tomato plant, ficus or olive tree… Parrot Flower Power app knows exactly what plants need!
Upon opening the application the screen of your Smartphone/tablet shows your “Garden” – the list of all connected Parrot Flower Power sensors with pictures of the plants associated to each unit. You then see a quick visualisation of all your plants and their needs.
An “agenda” lists all of the tasks to be achieved that day and the predictions for the coming days (watering, addition of fertiliser, etc.).
Every 15 minutes, Parrot Flower Power records the data that is important for the growth of the plant (soil moisture, fertiliser, light intensity and ambient temperature) and sends them to your Smartphone/tablet when close (5 to 25 meters). Available in real time via graphs, this data is transmitted to the ‘Parrot Cloud’ for analysis via algorithms .
This analysis then enables you to know the condition of the plant and to receive short term predictions regarding any upcoming actions required.
Data is symbolised via icons, whose colours vary depending on the situation:
- green : no action needed
- red: immediate or un-attended action (in this case, an alert is sent to the Smartphone/tablet).
Parrot works with prestigious universities and laboratories around the world to make precision agriculture and horticulture accessible to everyone. Tests of thousands of plants are done for example in:
- The laboratories of Wageningen University in The Netherlands ;
- The centre of urban horticulture at Washington university ;
- The greenhouses of Agrocampus Ouest in Angers, France ;
- Topager’s urban vegetable garden located on the roof of AgroParisTech school.
With Parrot Flower Power and the data and tips provided, you will learn over time how to grow and keep your plants healthy. The needs of bushes, vegetables, aromatic, herbaceous or ornamental plants will no longer be a mystery to you! Parrot’s Flower Power is currently available for AED 289.
