For the first time in its 59-year history, Mercedes-AMG has developed a full-size SUV entirely in-house and from the ground up. The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is the second model built on the AMG.EA high-performance architecture, following the recently unveiled AMG GT 4Door Coupé.
In the top-of-the-range AMG GT 63 SUV, three axial flux motors deliver up to 860 kW (1,169 hp) and 2,000 Nm of torque. Mercedes-AMG quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds on a one-foot rollout basis, and a top speed of 270 km/h with the Driver’s Package. Continuous output is rated at up to 530 kW, which the company says sets a new standard in the segment.
The drivetrain is powered by an 800-volt AMG High Performance Electric Battery, inspired by Formula 1 and built with directly cooled cylindrical cells. It is offered in 106 kWh and 128 kWh versions, with WLTP range of up to 700 km. Peak DC charging reaches 710 kW with the larger battery, adding up to 450 km of range in 10 minutes. These charging figures are preliminary and have not yet been confirmed by an officially recognised testing organisation.
The GT SUV also introduces AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+, a suspension with active pitch and roll stabilisation. Active AEROKINETICS elements, including a roof spoiler and front air panel, reduce drag and sharpen stability. The AMGFORCE Sport+ driving programme recreates the sound of an AMG V8 or six-cylinder engine, complete with simulated gear changes and seat shakers.
“SUV by shape. GT by nature,” said Dr Stefan Weckbach, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. Dr Jörg Burzer, Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said electric performance “no longer requires any compromises” in sustained power, range or charging speed.
Customers can choose from three variants. The AMG GT 63 SUV delivers up to 860 kW, the AMG GT 55 SUV up to 600 kW, and the entry-level AMG GT 53 SUV 400 kW from two synchronous motors. The AMG GT 53 SUV opens for order on 20 October, starting at 113,050 euros, a non-binding recommended retail price for Germany including 19% VAT. The AMG GT 63 and 55 models follow in spring 2027.
Production takes place in Hall 32 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, which has been retrofitted for AMG.EA technology. Middle East pricing and availability were not included in the announcement.
