Review: Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G-56E4 Laptop

While the popularity of smaller and lighter laptops has increased over the years, the 15.6-inch laptop category still remains more in demand among consumers, whether for education, editorial, office jobs, and also for entertainment. We take a look at the new Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G-56E4 15.6-inch laptop.

Design

The Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G is basically a large-sized laptop for those looking for an affordable mid-range machine with modern aesthetics. The 15.6-inch display includes an IPS panel that offers great viewing angles and can be set at a 180-degrees flat angle. While the screen does not come with touch functionality, the FHD screen resolution offers sharp-looking text and images.

The display also features a color temperature that appears to be a cool white effect. And there is a front-facing camera on the top bezel of the screen that is meant for online classes, online meetings, or normal conversations.

The backlit keyboard of the laptop is comfortable to use, and we had a pleasant typing experience. The trackpad area is also quite large and spacious and has a smooth matte surface. We also noticed that Acer had positioned the trackpad slightly on the left side, rather than the usual middle position. While this may take some time for some users to get used to it, the purpose of positioning the trackpad in that manner is to align with the main portion of the keyboard before the number pad.

The trackpad also features a fingerprint reader for extra security. And like any other 15.6-inch laptop, the Acer A715-75G comes with a slew of connectivity options. On the left side, there is the RJ45 port for the internet, a full-sized HDMI port, two USB Type-A ports, and one USB-C port. The right side of the laptop is fitted with a headphone jack, a power connector, a USB 2.0 port for connecting accessories such as a mouse, and power/storage LEDs.

The laptop also has several air vents to cool off the internal components. The air vents are located on the right side, on the rear, and also underneath the laptop. The laptop features a weight of 2.15 kg and comes in Charcoal Black color.

Performance

The Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G’s performance metrics are based on the Intel 10th generation i5-10300H quad-core processor, featuring a speed of 2.5GHz. While it may be a bit old, the processor is capable of delivering good performance for casual and office applications. The processor is joined with 8GB DDR4 which should suffice for normal operations, although, we would have preferred at least 16GB of RAM for today’s applications.

The laptop also sports a 512GB SSD on board with Windows 10 Home installed. You will also be able to upgrade to the latest Windows 11 OS if you wish to try it. Our CrystakDiskMark tests showed that the SSD is capable of read speeds up to 1890MB/s and write speeds up to 1833 MB/s. While the laptop isn’t exactly meant for gaming, the machine does sport the entry-level NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU with 4GB of GDDR6 memory. You should be able to play some older titles without any issues.

Our 3DMark FireStrike tests showed that the GPU was able to achieve a score of 8722 points. Our PC Mark 10 Extended recorded a score of 5106 points, GeekBench 5 single-core CPU score of 1188 points, and Geekbench 5 multi-core CPU score of 3634 points. During our time with the laptop, the Aspire 7 was able to perform well while we used it for office applications, casual surfing, and more.

Other features of the laptop include IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, and Bluetooth 5.0.

Battery

When it comes to battery life, this Aspire 7 holds a 3-cell Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery, where Acer claims that it can last for about 8.50 hours. We ran the PC Mark 10 Extended Battery test that includes a series of operations and the laptop lasted from 100% to zero in 3 hours and 46 minutes. For real-world usage, we were able to get about half a day of use, but it depends whether we are using the laptop for normal surfing, watching YouTube or Netflix, online meetings, etc.

Verdict

Acer’s Aspire series have always proved to be reliable when it comes to affordable laptops with great value. While it may not sport the latest chipsets, the Intel 10th generation i5-10300H is sufficient enough for normal tasks and light office work, along with a speedy solid-state drive.

The laptop also features a great-looking 15.6-inch IPS display with great viewing angles and the overall build quality of the chassis is quite good. Users will also be able to take advantage of the vast amount of connectivity options. The battery life of the laptop may be mediocre but should help to get you about half a day of use. Overall, the Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G-56E4 is a good choice if you are looking for a large-screen laptop for casual use, online meetings, or online classes for your kid’s education.
