Review: HTC One M9

EditorsChoiceHTC One M9 has been touted as a phone with features that will revolutionize the smart phone industry. The phone indeed boasts of some great features which change the way people look at the smart phones. However, how does it fare in terms of performance and specification needs to be reviewed.

If you are upgrading from 2 years ago, you will find the phone equipped with features and a design that is killer. HTC has always been known as design master and wins hand on in that department. However, issues like poor camera and little evolution from its predecessor M8 may affect the buyers.

The design of the phone is no less than sublime. The feel of the phone cannot be described in words. The basic design has been left unchanged, however, the phone has more metal this time. The power button has been shifted to the right side along with the volume rocker keys. It sometimes gets irritating when you press the wrong key as all the three keys are of same size and placed alongside. The rounded back makes the phone sit in the palm with ease and the two tone color apparently add class to the design.

HTC has not done enough innovation on the display front. With a resolution of 1920×1080, the display is bright and crisp but the color temperature might be an issue. The size of the display has been kept unchanged at 5 inches. The absence of QHD may mean straining the battery a little more.

With already so many features and great specification provided in the phone, there is really no more scope for innovation. Powered by du Jour chipset, the phone has enough potential to work like a charm. Snapdragon 810 processor with octa-core makes things even better. 3GB of RAM makes the phone a true multitasker and handles heavy games with ease and smoothness. The BoomSound speakers are Dolby powered and provides the virtual surround sound experience. It is great for listening to sound in your home sans earphone.

Even with a 20 MP camera on-board, it fails to impress. Though HTC has been trying to tell the world that more megapixels are not required, but better light does the trick. The pictures lack depth and are not sharp either. The camera impresses only when there is bright light and you are clicking simple pictures. The front camera is however good for clicking selfies and video conferencing.

The phone is indeed a well-crafted one and has improvised in all the departments, except the camera which is grossly disappointing. If you are upgrading from M7, you will love the device, but for those who own an HTC One M8 will not find many tweaks and changes. We usually expect a lot from HTC but the phone does not seem to be a giant leap forward. Buy the phone if you wish to experience heavenly designed and crafted phone. You can give it a miss, if you own an HTC One M8.
