Review: Oppo F3

Oppo’s new F3 is meant for all the selfie aficionados.  The F3 packs a dual front-facing selfie camera system. The camera system includes a 16MP camera for standard selfies and a 8MP wide-angle camera with a field-of-view that offers group selfies. At the back of the camera, you will also find a 13MP camera that features Dual PDAF and an f/2.2 aperture.

In terms of design and build quality, the F3 features the same look and feel of its big brother, the F3 Plus. The phone is fairly slim at 7.3mm and light at 153 grams. The phone’s 5.5-inch display with slim borders on either side makes it easy to use this phone one-handed.

On the front, just below the display is the capacitive Home button that is flanked by two capacitive navigation keys, which are backlit. The power button is on the right, while the volume rockers are on the left. The SIM tray can accommodate two Nano SIMs and there’s a dedicated slot for a microSD card, which can be expanded to up t0 128GB.

The phone itself comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB built-in storage. Inside the box, you get a 10W power adapter, a headset, a data cable, a flexible phone case, a SIM ejector tool, and the instruction manuals. The chassis of the phone is built using plastic except for the back plate, which is metal.

On the bottom edge, you will find the 3.5mm audio jack, a micro USB charging port, a microphone, and the speaker grilles. Under the hood, the Oppo F3 is powered by the MediaTek 64-bit MT6750T octa-core SoC, while the choice of operating system is Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The phone is powered by a 3200mAh non removable battery. Oppo’s F3 also accompanies the Beautify 4.0 pre-installed. The biggest feature of the phone is the dual camera system on the front for all your selfie needs.

The cameras performed quite well. The front cameras were able to take pretty amazing selfies, while the back camera performed quite well, even under low light conditions. Landscapes taken in daylight have good detail although the colours could have been a little more vivid. Auto HDR mode works well, too. Macros look good on the phone’s display – they were sharp as well, even when you zoom in.

In terms of performance, the Oppo F3 was quite good and we did not encounter any lag when trying to multi-task and switch between apps. The precision of the fingerprint scanner was awesome and the feedback was super-quick. The battery was able to offer a little more than a day’s worth of backup before it needed charging again.

At a price point of AED 1199, the Oppo F3 might feel a bit pricey for some. However, the performance of the cameras justify the price point. If you are a selfie aficionado, you should definitely check out the Oppo F3 smartphone.
