One of the emerging stars in the Chinese mobile market, Huawei has launched their new player in the phablet market, Huawei Ascend Mate 7. It is the successor of its ancestor Ascend Mate 2 and hence, everybody expected the new latest phablet to be numbered as 3 at the end of its name, but Huawei named it as Mate 7 like G7 and P7.
The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 inbuilt with 16 GB internal storage memory coupled with 2 GB RAM will cost you around $650. The device features with a choice between two colours such as silver and black. The other variant of the Ascend Mate 7 is blessed with 32 GB internal storage memory and pumped with 3 GB RAM and the price of this variant is around $ 780.
The device is smaller than its 6.1 inch ancestor, but still the screen size is hanging around 6 inches and is certainly not for those with small hands. Such a big screen lets the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 give a strong competition to some of the recently announced devices such as Nokia Lumia 1520, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as well as the 5.5 inch LG G3.
Maybe the screen size hasn’t been reduced much, but Huawei has done a great job in reducing the thickness of the body of the phone around the display. The phone features with a unique look, when you turn on the screen there will be a black bezel surrounding it, which looks very impressive. In fact the screen covers the 83% of the total surface area of the front body if the device, which provides an extraordinary finish to the phone and putting it ahead of Note 4 whose screen cover 80% of the front area.
The dimension of the phone is 157 mm x 81 mm x 7.9 mm, which makes it easier to handle the phone in one hand and makes it comfortably smaller than the competitors such as 5.9 inches HTC One Max and Lumia 1520. The phone is 10% lighter and 17% thinner than its predecessor Ascend Mate 2, while the weight of this new variant is just 185 grams, which is much lighter as compared to 217 grams One Max.
95% of the body of this device is composed of metal which gives it strong and elegant look, a thin strip of plastic runs across the bottom and the top of the phone below which antenna are located. The rear end of the phone is slightly curved, which allows the device to comfortably fit into the hands of the user and allows handling of all the one handed operations without any hassle.
The power/lock and volume buttons are also metallic and are located at the right side of the handset. On the left side of the device, there are two trays, one is for the micro SIM while the other can be used to insert microSD card or a nanoSIM, which makes Huawei Ascend Mate 7 a dual SIM device. Both the SIM slots of the phone support 4G SIM cards which allow to take benefits of the lightning fast data speed.
Performance-wise, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is a good device. The screen is big, the performance is snappy, and the reception level and call quality is also good. The only deterrence could probably be the hefty price tag.
